Long Way Round
Kevin and I just finished watching a great mini-series titled “Long Way Round.” The series aired on British television, and documented an around the world motorcycle trip taken by Ewan McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman. From amazon.com:
- Tagline: 2 men, 2 bikes, 20,000 miles…
- Plot Synopsis: This documentary series follows actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman on a motorcycle trip around the world. The two friends will travel through such places as Siberia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Alaska, before finally ending the journey in New York. The filming will be done by on board cameras and one ride along cameraman.

If you are interested in such things, I loved it and highly recommend this series.
The worst part is, its been cold here, so I haven’t been out on the bike in over a month. Lately I’ve really had the itch to go riding, and this movie/mini-series did nothing to help that situation. Not only that, but I am pretty convinced at this point that I need a dual-sport (apparently two-bikes between us is not enough).

Puppy Rampage
The garage is decidedly NOT a good dog pen…
Remember the video’s I posted a few days ago showing Cody fetching the tennis ball? (You should, it’s the post right below this one). Well, if you pay attention, you can see the six 40lb bags of lime sitting by the barn-style doors. The bags were left over from starting our lawn last fall. If you were curious to know what five of those bags looked like torn open and spread around the garage, the above is a pretty representative depiction. I know my curiosity has been satisfied. Also, powdery gray puppy prints all over the place are great for letting me know where Cody has been during the day, and what he was interested in. Conclusion: everywhere and everything.
Anyway, I am not ashamed to admit that I did not watch the SOTU address last night. My shoulders are still reminding me of how I spent that time shoveling and vacuuming 200lbs of lime off of my garage floor. (Oh, and before I forget, Kevin was conveniently out of town last night on business in Ohio. So dealing with this little fiasco was entirely up to me). *Note to self: puppy-proof everything.* The upside is that, after giving Cody a bath immediately upon arriving home yesterday, he didn’t put up a fuss while I used the hair dryer to dry him so he wouldn’t smell like wet-dog all night. Wouldn’t want to add insult to injury:)

Home again
Well, its back to work. A whole five days a week. But, I had fun at the wedding in Florida this weekend, even if I didn’t get to stay long enough. I don’t get to hang with those friends nearly as much as I’d like:

Almost Friday
Heh, iphone
Apple’s new phone is almost what I want. However, I think I’ll wait a year or two until one of their competitors makes something better for less money. By then, these devices will be better and more refined products (1st generation anything is bound to have bugs), and I won’t have to buy from Apple if I don’t want to. (Which I don’t).
In other news, I’ll be in Florida this weekend for a friends wedding. (I know, another wedding that’s not mine, we’ll set a date soon, I promise:) I am excited to see everyone, and I am sure I’ll have a wonderful time as I always do, but the travelling itself is never fun. Kevin and I leave friday morning and get to Tampa mid-afternoon. The rehersal dinner is friday evening-ish and the wedding is Saturday. Sunday morning we have to be at the airport by 10am to come home. Not exactly a a relaxing and exotic Florida vacation, like my co-workers accusations imply.

A Gift from the River
Surprise! Kevin and I have added another addition to the family:) Everyone, meet Cody :
The mayo river seems to have a habit of producing cold, shivering, approximately 3 month old puppies. Back in 1999, a chocolate lab puppy, later named Molly, washed up in a rather sorry state on the banks of Charles’ property along the river. (Charles lives across the river from the dam in Mayodan, and assists Kevin and Dean in operation of the hydropower plants.) No one claimed the dog, so Charles and his wife have happily kept it ever since. Fast forward to a few days ago, after some rather significant rainfall, Molly got her chance to return the favor by coaxing another very scared, cold, and hungry puppy out of a very turbulent mayo river. Despite the overwhelming success with his first dog from the river (molly has made a wonderful pet), Charles felt that perhaps someone else would appreciate this particular gift of the many the river has to offer (it doesn’t deliver just puppies you know:). Thus, I finally get my wish, and am now the proud owner of what appears to be a happy and healthy 3 month old Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy. (More links about the breed here and here.)
We’ve only had him since this morning, but he’s already starting to feel like part of the family:)

Hero
This story is amazing. Either this guy is incredibly brave, or he’s crazy and watches far, far too many action movies:

So, did anyone get the email? I like this new blog much better than the old one. What do you think? Comments and suggestions are welcome. (Its almost like there’s no one here…:)
