One month from today

Kevin and I are getting married:) Yup, I figured today was as good a day as any to blog the good news; sort of a “-1 month” anniversary, or final countdown, if you will. (Well that, and I have the day off from work, so it actually feels like a good idea to spend a few minutes updating the ‘ol blog.)

I’m willing to bet that most anyone who reads this blog has been invited to the wedding. (If not…well….I’m sorry…call me and I’ll see what I can do.) In fact, most of you have probably already received your invitation and sent back the RSVP card. If you haven’t RSVP’d yet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME?….Heh, just kidding…really…its ok….sort of. The card says you still have two weeks to get it back to me.

As you can imagine, I’m pretty excited (duh). I’ve been riding the predictable emotional roller coaster that takes me from “I can’t wait for this day to come, this is so much fun” to “Please Lord let’s just get this thing over with, so I can stop thinking about it already.” Some days, it feels like the most natural thing in the world plan a wedding. How hard can it be; just check off the “to do” list, one item at a time. Mostly it’s just a big party, what’s the worst that can happen? Other days, there’s a nearly overwhelming feeling of panic as I realize that there are only a few precious weeks left to go before I have to be ready. I curse the seemingly absurd tradition of throwing an expensive party with expensive and useless clothing that requires a stressful and all-consuming effort to plan. It feels as if there are still a million things left to do, and too many decisions left to make.

I imagine this must be some sort of rite of passage :) Fortunately most of my female friends have already done this, which is great, because they can tell me what not to do. Plus, they actually seem to enjoy commiserating with me, and appear genuinely interested in the minutia involved in the business of weddings :)

In the end though, its all going to work out wonderfully, and hopefully be a fun time for more than just me and Kevin. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone there. I am especially happy that so many people can make if from out of town. Not only is it more difficult to organize a wedding from several states away, but its also more difficult for people to make the trip. I am really happy, and honestly a little surprised and flattered, that so many people want to come see us get married:)

I know both of our parents are happy. I’m pretty sure that mine were afraid that we’d never tie the knot. (Sorry Mom:) Relax! Finally, its almost here!

Speaking of parents, look at the awesome wedding gift that Kevin’s parents have gotten for us:

Thanks for the rocking chairs Wendy and Dean!

Ok, this is the part I’ve been debating about posting here. I’ve been inundated with questions about our wedding gift registry. At first I wasn’t even going to do a gift registry, but several people have convinced me that it’s the sensible thing to do. So, I want this disclaimer known: wedding gifts will of course be very much appreciated, but are certainly not expected or required. Especially some of the expensive items, I certainly don’t expect anyone to buy them for us. Even though it sounds cliché, the gift of your presence really is enough. The wedding is the important part. That said, weddings are traditionally a time for family and friends to help a new couple establish their home together. So, if you want to get us something, but don’t know what to get, you can try our registries at:

Bed Bath and Beyond

And

MyRegistry.com (password GEW)

The second is an online registry only, the first is both online, or at your nearest store.

There. I may have to edit that part of this post out later, ‘cause even though its practical for getting the word out, it still feels rude.

Ok, this post has gotten long enough. Have a happy Easter everyone, and though I’ll probably post again before then, I hope to see you all in a month.
