Last weekend we decided to explore the hiking trails at Fairy Stone State Park, which is located on Philpott lake, another Army Corps dam and reservoir in VA. I’m not sure why we’ve never hiked there before, its only a little farther away than Hanging Rock. It turned out to be a really nice walk; Fairy Stone has pretty trails that are well maintained, but perhaps not challenging enough. There isn’t as much elevation change at Fairy Stone, so the 5.5 miles went by pretty quickly, and without as much effort as it would take on most of the trails at Hanging Rock. There aren’t as many trail miles either, so we’ve seen a significant portion of what there is to see already. Still, its a great place to take a walk, and not too far away, so we’ll be back.
