Venus Transit

We tried to view the Venus transit across the sun today, but the weather didn’t cooperate. The Forsyth Astronomical Society held a public event on Pilot Mountain, with telescopes equipped with solar filters to allow anyone that wanted to come to view the transit. Every now and then there was a hole in the clouds that allowed a clear view of the sun for 30 seconds or a minute, but there were just too many people in line for everyone to get a view. Eventually the cloud cover was consistent enough that we weren’t going to get a chance to see it. We had to make due by refreshing the Astronomy Picture of the Day every now and then on the phone to watch the transit in progress. At least we had a fun ride out to Pilot Mountain and back.
