Morning at the fire tower confirmed that we’d made the right decision to ride across the country to make our reservation.
It took a little while to make our way down the hill, and ride the 8 miles back to the paved road. Being rested, fed, and having dry weather made the trip back out much easier than the trip in, and we reached the pavement without incident.
I don’t have any pictures from the rest of the day. Mostly we were just excited about visiting some friends in Eugene. Aside from good company, their house was also an oasis of civilization. We had (much needed at this point) hot showers, laundry, a comfortable place to sleep inside, and access to the internet. We were fed a delicious home cooked meal, and then Collin took us out for a tour of Eugene. This area of country is full of good beer and micro breweries. Eugene also has a 24 specialty doughnut shop that serves a maple frosted doughnut with bacon on top…..enough said.
Thank you Collin and Melissa!
7/18/2012 – 185 miles. Collin’s house is exactly the change of pace we needed. We’re really looking forward to taking a break from putting on the miles and spending time with friends.
