Thursday morning was still cold, but at least it was sunny. This brightened our mood considerably, as today we would get to ride the fabulous Cherohala Skyway from Tellico Plains, TN, into Robbinsville, NC. We crossed into the eastern time zone, and landed in Tellico Plains for a late lunch.
Tellico Plains is in the middle of moto heaven, for both on and off-road. We took a break from our endless march of riding for a few hours to check out the famous Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters. Unlike everywhere else, this place has a lot of gear in stock, so you can actually try on that expensive moto gear before having to buy it.
After the break, the Cherohala did not disappoint. One advantage of a road trip during the week in April, is that it is possible to mostly get a clear run at a famous road. 43 miles of sweepers was interrupted only briefly for the construction to repair the landslide that had until recently closed the road.
Near the end of the day, despite the cold, Kevin convinced me to camp in the national forest. Lows were supposed to be in the 40s, and we’ve managed that ok before, so camping it was for our last night on the road.
