8/22/2014 – 464 mi – NE to IA
Iowa is the last new moto state for the trip, and makes the 44th state overall we’ve ridden in.

By Iowa, it became apparent that Kevin’s chain really wasn’t going to make it home. It was close, with only about 1000 mi to go, but it was at the end of adjustment and completely worn out. We’re not too upset about stopping to replace it, that chain has 25,000 miles on it, which is pretty good for 500lb, 150hp motorcycle.
8/24/2014 – 596 mi – IN, OH, KY, WV, VA, NC
596 mi from Indiana to home officially makes for my biggest day on a motorcycle. 12 hours of traveling, and we made it home before dark. Stopping for a dinner break in Meadows of Dan helped pick me up for the last push back to the house. It feels really strange to be riding in familiar territory, but we’re really happy to be back.
Somehow, all this stuff fit on two motorcycles. It looks like Kevin has a lot more stuff on his bike than mine; he does have a bit more, but he was also more enthusiastic about unpacking all of his kit and spreading it out for the photo than I was.
That’s all folks!
